Finius, last name redacted for purposes of adventure, takes a long look into empty space from the departure hangar of the Greystar space hab.
Orders had come in to travel several systems away to investigate a new group claiming to want trade. They called themselves the Constellation Supremacy Front, and their initial message to the universe was neutral in tone.
It appears they are running from the New Moon Cooperative despite using the same pattern of ships as the once sector dominating group, and this has naturally raised questions
(You’re assigned , and what’s know about them is on their handout under galactic factions)
17:05
The New Moon Cooperative have seen their empire expand to control all habitable worlds in 1NE sector, down to just three. Years of fighting the Shapers have humbled this still proud stellar government. They too have re-mastered space flight, though their fleet strength is unknown.
A cooperative society, they desire increased trade and social contact more than anything.
The vacc suits are given out to all who board, each has a GSN emblem on it, and is wired to the ship status panels so you can at least see the integrity of each compartment and any important information.
The cruiser, the Bastion is assigned for the job, along with an escort of two corvettes. Greystar is not planning on beginning any hostilities, but wants to ensure that if the CSF is trying to ruse something, that there is a good chance everyone sent will make it home
21:54
lighted signs and clean lit paths through the floor show the locations of areas like the bunks, the galley, the bridge, and the expedition hangar, and the map is also downloaded to your compad upon entering.
The Bastion is a storied vessel, taking part in the Battle of Benavides most recently, where it helped destroy the Shaper Starforge, and drive the flesh crafting menace back for good.
21:54
Most of the crew seem to be heading to bunks, before reporting to their department heads on the bridge
I would start by reading the information and looking over the map. If anyone is still awake I would talk to them. Otherwise I would get some rest like a reasonable crew member
(Am I going through to be the one talking to NMC? Or will there be others going with me, I an trying to figure out my role and where I would be on the totem pole) (sorry about all the questions I am just a bit confused)
(The Constellation supremacy front is a breakaway group from the NMC. Their only message to the Galaxy was theyd like to trade and begin relations.
As far as the reason for their split from the cooperative you don’t know what it’s motivated by or what their intentions are.
You have a security detail but basically you’re being sent as a temperature check, to see what they’re about and what they’re offering , and maybe to get a bit more of their story )
The cooperative has been nominally friendly. It has come to the aid of the larger galaxy a few times , but right now they are a shell of their former strength.
No one is sure what their internal political situation was like as the fleshshapers destroyed more and more new moon cooperative worlds , and that means they’re not sure why the schism has occurred either
The crew doesn’t have anything worked out ahead of time. The plan Is to not go too far away from any public areas on the CSF trade station once welcomed aboard.
Presumably no one will be carrying any weapons anyway, it being a void craft
The trip is expected to take a week, and the crew is beginning to settle in for the journey
04:11
)we have a downtime activities sheet on the roll20 for stuff you can do while traveling)
(You got it, 7/30 for Taros)
The ship exits spike space at the edge of a never before charted system. Sensors from the fleet at anchor here have not yet detected your ships, and no comm hails have lit up the bridge just yet.
There is a message from the captain to meet him on the bridge.
Before you, a massive station, escorted by factory ships, and a number of picket warships floats in space
It takes several hours of careful maneuver through the CSF defense picket, and the formation is led into dock amid heavy guard by the CSF ships.
The station is in the shape of a large turtle, and the docks on the right side, under the 'shell' are opened for your use, and can even accommodate the cruiser.
Two warrant officers, and a dozen CSF guards are waiting, stopping you as soon as you exit your ship, well before you make it anywhere near the bridge.
22:36
The guards have long las-muskets, with fixed bayonets, though they're held on shoulders. Their uniforms remind you of colonial earth British Empire, though with a deep emerald green in place of red for the main jacket color
22:37
"Welcome to Neo-Tortuga. We understand you set sail from Greystar Confederacy space. You've come to answer our call for trade?"
"They may. We're not going to the bridge, but a conference room has been set aside, and after that if you'd like to walk through the shell of Neo Tortuga, we would be happy to take you. This station is something of a wonder"
A tour would be most welcome as my legs are in need of some exercise. But before that we would be happy to go to the conference room . Will you be taking us? Also are there any protocols or rules we should be aware of?
"You're new here, you're allowed to keep your weapons, but I highly suggest keeping them holstered or shouldered, and no heavy weapons like rocket launchers or heavy machine guns are allowed inside the station, since they could easily puncture the hull.
Aside from that, we work in credits, so your money is good here, and there isnt really any section thats off limits aside from the bridge or engineering- without being escorted there"
17:46
"We're going to be going to a small conference room near the bridge where the captain, and fleet purser are waiting, and they'll be able to give you a better idea of what we're doing out here, and where we're going"
" I smile politely at the man. We are happy to holster all weapons. We brought no heavy weapons so that wont be a problem. I could do with a real meal so I may head over and buy some food later" As we begin to walk toward the conference room I ask the man "How long have you been working on the station?"
"I'm sure we can get something delivered for you during the talks, please let the attendants know when you get there. You have come a long way just to see what we are about, the least we can do is feed you. "
The group begins walking toward the meeting room, through some starship corridors that are clean, made of a stamped metal that was likely manufactured in the hundreds of meters at a time.
"I've been part of the crew here just for a few months, but I was a naval officer for the New Moon Cooperative for close to four years before that. I've been a spacer for about twenty total, but you know the political situation,e ven before the scream. The flag changed often"
I nod and listen to the man. " I will let the attendants know. I appreciate your hospitability. I know the political situation has changed a great deal."Could you give me any more details on the political situation?" As I walk though and take a look at the people. Are they running around? Are they avoiding eye contact?
The station is very busy. Everyone could be described as 'running around'. They are making eye contact if you cross their eye line, but otherwise are fairly concerned with their duties
"Ill let the captain answer the political questions, and here he is"
You're brought into a wood paneled conference room with art and large tapestries on the walls. A viewport, armored, looks out into space, overlooking the dorsal side of the GSN Bastion below. You can see fuel lines, and some small upkeep like repairs are already underway, courtesy of your hosts.
"Welcome, to NeoTortuga. please, sit. I am captain Adm. Morgan Inghram, and I am pleased to meet you" she says, indicating you should indeed sit down.
She gestures to another man in the back of the room
"This is Commodore Regis Matangh, my second in command
“Thank you for the introductions. I am pleased to meet both of you. This is a wonderful station. Would you care to give me some history about the place?” I take a seat and clasp my hands as I listen.(edited)
"The Commodore and I used to sail with the New Moon Cooperative, and we found this station in deep space during a routine patrol. At the time, we were both unhappy with the political situation in cooperative space, and we spoke with our crews upon finding it.
We all agreed not to report the findings, and intended to return if we truly felt the situation at home could not be salvaged.
After the Battle of Benavides, when it was clear the Cooperative was safe, but the political reforms we wanted didn't happen, we simply didn't report back after the battle, and instead took the ships loyal to us, and returned here"
14:58
"There was no need to use guns or violence when we had the option to simply, leave"
I appreciate your honesty. It seems despite things politically you have managed to keep things moving. I had a few questions. "Do you have any relationship with the NMC?"
"We wanted to see the King step down, and for a shake up of the parliamentary house. They were ineffective leaders during the Shaper crisis, a good many of the noble houses didnt contribute ships to the main campaign fleet and opted to protect their own piecemeal holdings instead.
I blame that fractured attempt at defending us entirely on them, and if they feel that little of their people, then the system needs to change"
"Ah yes, you did mention at the beginning of this you were curious as to how we would select what worlds we visit
We respect the territory others have claimed, and for a nomadic group like us, the domination of star systems is....well, its; not something we are interested in. We've broadcasted messages, asking for permission to trade at various worlds. If a government or world governor invites us, and is willing to allow NeoTortuga orbital access for a month , that is where we would decide to go"
"We are looking to buy colonial supplies and colonial materials. As many tons as we can get our hands on.
Naturally, we also have some products we make, in the name of fuel, and metals both common and rare"
17:24
"We also have the space to mount cargo lifters, which we have done, and as a result any major planetary airlifts of planetary salvage jobs are also within our capabilities, and we would take payment in kind through goods, or credits, for those"
17:26
(for reference, most ships can only mount cargo lighters, basically small cargo shuttles, Lifters are way bigger, like going from a pickup worth of goods to a semi truck)
Now comes the difficult questions. “My next bit of question deal more with your ability to make changes as needed. As you may know we also trade with the NMC. We are open for discussion but if we need to make changes to keep our trade with the NMC are you willing to keep trading as we may need to make changes based on the above factors? I am not looking to offend but I think my superiors would appreciate to know your feelings on this matter.”
(yes if a problem were to arise. I want see their temperature and flexibility. My concern is the NMC see's us trading with someone that defected and then they cut off trade or want a better deal.)(edited)
"There shouldn't be any problems. We've actually entertained one of their envoys recently, and they know the prospect of us going back right now isnt something they can enforce"
18:08
'We left peacefully, and as long as we don't turn into brigands at the borders, they've agreed to just cut us loose"
18:08
"So you don't need to worry about getting into the middle of a flashpoint, if that is your concern"
"We're looking for a world to host our station for the coming month, a chance to reprovision, and take on some fresh stocks of food and water would help, and naturally we would be willing to sell any goods our factory ships make at a good rate"
"And we would even be willing to lend some crew to help with public works projects or other matters that need some extra muscle down on the surface, all within local laws of course"
“This is wonderful. We would appreciate the help. I think I have all the information I need. Unless there is anything else. I would appreciate a tour.”
(They already told you what they sell)
You are taken through metal foundries and the fuel holding tanks , where dozens of smaller holding tanks and nozzles to the hangar deck would allow a whole fleet Worth of ships to be repaired and refueled at once
Hundreds of people work hard to ensure goods are made and fuel is refined at a steady rate and a whole cargo@hold full of trade goods is packaged and ready for sale
(3xp, 5000 credits)
Your ships are refueled and handled while you've been away, and the stations trade data has been added to your own ship logs, for your return to greystar space. Several Greystar planets produce things the CSF is looking for.
(unless something has been homebrewed that I cant find (i've checked the homebrew stuff in #old-rules-and-books, but I might've missed something) I dont think you can get the second level of the core technique)
(Thank you Sara, but please let the mods and Neko deal with things like this. Much appreciated for the help)
1
00:38
(Sara is correct, Finius. You cannot take a level 1 upgrade of the core technique. You can either take another standalone technique or a technique that modifies the one you took with level 1 of the Wild Psychic Talent focus)
Heading back to Acastus is a long but uneventful journey and the information you found will be reviewed and then transmitted to the Galaxy at large. It seems like Greystar will be the first to decide if the trade station will visit one of their worlds or not during the next monthly meeting
Greystar is an official governmental power and is not going to authorize theft , but there is a situation on the shipyard they could use an expert computer assistant with.
Several strange incidences aboard the shipyard such as the loss of equipment , delays , and in the most recent case, sabotage and an outright mutiny on one of the scout frigates.
The loyal crew was unharmed but the vessel is taken. Captives Have alluded to more conspirators aboard the shipyard and it has been difficult to track them and flush them out
The Kestrel II was taken from inside by a mutiny. The captain was released, along with crew who surrendered peacefully, as the mutineers just wanted the ship. Survivors were released by lifeboat to land on the planet Buey.
The names of the mutineers are easily found, based on who was confirmed killed and who was rescued. Those missing from both lists are all likewise gone aboard the captured vessel, though something could be done to see if they have had any contacts left behind here.
Searching the logs is too general a query for the database, and returns no information without some kind of parameter.
There are security cameras in the hangars and shipyard
Shipyard data is beginning to download, along with rosters of the work details every day since Greystar decided to take command of the platform.
There are three individuals identified, a work leader from morning shift, an engineering rating from the afternoon, and a deck safety officer from overnight, who also had former cult contacts, but were cleared for work. It seems as though some of the mutineers were regularly contacting these people.
( I would ask to look at their records and comm transcripts. I would want to know their last whereabouts what they know about the cult and any information about the mutiny. I would also want to see how these pirates got access to the ship. Did they come in guns blazing? Or did they have access codes?)
Agent Finius, this is Director Kensh. I see you're looking into the cultist involvement in our shipyard. I'm on my way to the shipyard to look about and interrogate some people of interest. I'd like you to join me if you can.
( face is abstractly It’s special permission and permits for you to own heavy grade military equipment. What you use it for after that is up to you
00:31
Basically it’s a blind currency i keep track of for if someone can procure mil spec gear , combat vehicles, or heavy displacement starships like cruisers or capital ships )
00:32
(Doing missions, being a swell player and just generally not being a jerk to your polity mates and larger community is all ways I award face)
(With the extra money that I received I would like to buy a repair bot. With my program skill of +2 I'd like to make him a great repair bot and use him as a small business. Sending him on difficult jobs that other repair bots can not do. Let me know if this is possible, please )
The corvette is brought in and a docking tube extends. Freeguild soldiers and technicians , along with medical staff are all waiting to welcome you aboard the station and begin getting a census of everyone coming aboard, and their skills.
Two orderlies approach Finius, one with a datapad, and the other with a bioscanner, already taking readings.
"Welcome to Freeguild Station, Blue Rain. We're delighted you've chosen a freer path than the one you were on. We're going to ask a few questions and document your answers so we can build a database of everyone aboard and their skills. There's no wrong answers, but dont oversell yourself"
"The details of the projects being worked on would be something you're given if you're assigned to work on one. So you've never used your programming in an academic capacity. Programming is a blanket term for a lot of different computer functions.
You're certainly not on the hook for any past crimes here in the Freeguild, can you elaborate on your programming background a bit? you have no fear of punishment if it is checkered"
"I know how to get in and out of a banking system. I have skill in in a variety of programing languages that deal with controlling ship and station systems"
"Interesting, well, if you're interested in a research position, we will get you in touch with the head of the department, and he can get you onto a project from there. I will note your previous experience in the manipulation of data, and you're lucky. With skills like yours there are a number of doors that might open for you"
(landing pads at the northwest, northeast, and southeast corners, which are where ships dock. Hyrdopnics along the south. Living quarters along the west and most of north.
engineering spaces around the northeast landing pad, and behind them are the labs and military areas
(Either or both, Greystar wants what it can obtain, but if its not something you can copy or download, or steal, then they want to make sure Blue Rain doesn't have it)
A message comes in for you a short time later, signaling that the lab director would like to speak with you. There are a trio of projects the station is working on, though he has declined to provide details of them electronically.
Directions to the lab are provided along with an overall map of the space station, as its something you were not given prior
You’re met outside the large opaque glass research ward by a man in a Labcoat. His eyes have been replaced by a pair of google like cyberware implants and they focus on you a few times as you approach
"Dr. Mir. It is a pleasure to meet you as well. Manners are a refreshing thing for a new Freeguilder to have. I read over your file, and you don't need to repeat anything here since that is a labor.
14:43
I have a few projects here that I think you might be interested in, but I'm going to withhold most of the details until you are able to pick one"
14:44
'We're looking into
1- A mineral that has very good conduction properties. We might be able to harness it for a variety of uses.
2- We are trying to re-create an alloy so we can use it to clad our ships, especially the battle cruiser we are working to restore
3- There is a field theory project happening, where we might be able to use kinetic energy for a variety of uses
"I understand you're good at extracting data, and on that end we have a bit of an expeditionary mission for you to help us with this project.
It'll be off station, but if you can get some data we need, it should bring the project closer to completion and you should get a chance to really see everything start to come together!"
A small courier, formerly used for naval service has been assigned to the mission with a crew of you, two other science officers, a naval trooper, and two pilots. The rest of the space that isnt used for life support or crew facilities is given over to scanners and other scientific equipment
's destination is Pretel, a two day spike jump north of you. The Freeguild is not sure what might be there exactly, but it is thought that the New Moon Cooperative might have had some research facilities there, and any equipment that can be drained of data will help in speeding up the project that the Freeguild is working on
You're able to approximate a general purpose program to try to force access, but with the ship barely having left the station and not seeing the computer systems you'll be working with at the site, all you can give it is your best guess.
17:49
(is that what you'd be working on for your downtime?)
(This is a program that I am creating during downtime. I would guess I could use the systems I saw on the station to make sure I get a copy off all data once plugged in or transferred; I would leave the program open ended to make adaptations once I look at the new system.)
The ship enters pretel system space a few days later, and begins its own silent running.
The captain summons the science and engineering teams to the bridge, to explain what the plan is while the scans continue running
A new moon cooperative research facility is located on one of the asteroids in this system. It is supposed to be abandoned due to the shaper wars general evacuation order.
Upon entering the facility a two hour timer will begin ticking down before NMC automated security aboard sends out a distress and intrusion call. It’s possible any time after that, enemy naval vessels may jump into the system. The longer the job takes the more likely that deadly force will be needed.
05:18
The engineering and science team will be armed and sent aboard though there is no one aboard the station. There may be light automated defenses around the most sensitive areas
05:18
Get the data and get back to the ship as quickly as possible
A team of five , with you making the sixth. A set of matte black woven armor has been laid out for everyone along with deck plans of the actual station. The ship shakes gently as it comes in abeam to the research post and there is a crunch as the hoarding tubes extend
The team boards on the southern landig pad and begins sweeping the immediate area, considering things safe for the moment.
"Alright techies, pick a direction and lets get sweeping" the lead freeguild marine says, weapon still panning
Original message was deleted or could not be loaded.
pushing north into the reception room, it looks like the holo table that would normally display station information has been shattered. There is a bridge to the northern landing pad ahead of you, and to the west, a lounge for travelers seems to have been set up, though the door is closed. Its only identifiable by the name of the room on the door
The lounge has a door heading north into the main parts of the station. It is open but the lights are off beyond.
The room is well appointed, with rich wooden floors and furniture. A large liquor cabinet mounted into the back wall is still well stocked, and the bartender drone is slumped over behind the oak bar, its type A cell long depleted.
The ship does not have a powerful enough reactor to jump start the reactor on its own. Someone would need to see if it can be restarted in engineering, if it is possible at all
out from the lounge, there is a small armory across from it, where the armored door is locked in the halfway down position. There is enough space to roll in under it.
To the west, an access hallway runs north to south. North heads to crew bedding, and another landing pad, where the sign to the south says engineering and laboratory spaces
there is a sealed blast door cutting science and engineering off from the rest of the station. there is a keypad next to it, that has a bit of power in it, but the door does not open as your group forms up outside
It is outside engineering that you find the first of many security measures left in place to keep the station protected, in an eventuality such as this Freeguild raid.
A small ball turret gently pans back and forth in a ceiling housing, its snub nosed barrel ready to fire rifle rounds at anything that enters the engineering annex
The second shot from Finius goes wide, striking the wall behind the turret.
The rest of the security detail is able to bring it down in a spray of sparks and loose cables
The engineering section has panels on standby, and the reactor is still humming gently, though is nearly dormant itself. Emergency lights are the only things on.
the machinery looks intact, just that it has not been used in some time
Turning the power back on isnt as simple as flipping a switch or saying "Machine, turn on" you find out.
There is a long process of safety measures that need to be disengaged for the power to turn back on, and the ship may be needed to jump start the grid.
(I work with the tech to start up the power on and go through the safety measures. I have two of the guards go get cords or what they need to jump start the power.)
The power system begins cycling on after ten minutes of command inputs and some engineering. with a boost from the ship, the reactor begins fully powering the station
The lab doors are open now since power has been restored, though the actual shutter itself is in the closed position. There are several signs hanging up that state there may be active security measures inside
"Ok folks be ready for anything. Security team on me. Make sure to find cover and be ready for a fight." (I take the security team in carefully and have the tech on standby with medical equipment)
Entering the large double doors you first some to An electrostatic clean room. A small wall timer is counting down from 30 as the room and all of you are cleansed of any lingering static buildup
(With how fast it’s spinning down it would be seconds and it looks like you have to go through it to get into the lab space. It’s so nobody fries the sensitive equipment
Passing through the clean room you’re brought to a large space where banks of computers stretch from the floor of the station to almost the ceiling of the wide laboratory space. Several sealed hatches sit against the far northern wall
(Questions: What is the alloy made of? What are the chemical components? Are there any weaknesses to the alloy? Why did the facility go into power save mode?)
The facility was evacuated when it appeared the system may be attacked by the fleshshapers, and it was put into low power mode to ensure the sensitive equipment on board remained active for as long as possible
(Theyre presumably going to have you hand over the data as soon as you get back aboard the ship unless you can come up with some kind of reason to stall)
"Team the data was pulled but it is encrypted. I need a few days to figure the file set. Once I have that you should have a great deal of data to report back." We should go its been almost two hours and we are not prepared for a large battle"
(If you click the skill on your sheet it will automatically add your modifiers and stuff. We don’t have any in this case but don’t cheat yourself)
The captain is suspicious.
“So the data is encrypted and you can’t read it, but you also know it’s there and it’s the right material?”
Around you, the ship begins moving as crew scramble toward their stations , getting ready to make the jump before NMC picket patrol craft arrive
" I honestly don't know what I have. I need time to go over the data and make it presentable. I will have it to you before we dock or sooner. I know this does not sounds great but I pulled all the data that mean I need to comb through everything."
(I would also give the information to the captain of the Freeguild ship that is changed so they don't have the correct information, if I was able to do that)(edited)
No word has been had from Mara, after she tried to enter the lower reaches of the freeguild shipyard. Rin has become fast friends with most of the people that frequent the bar here,a nd has learned that the battlecruiser's engines and shielding systems are having difficulty working, but the work is highly classified and she was not able to get close enough to sabotage anything.
With Mara's mysterious disappearance and the fabricated data handed over , Rin thinks it might be time to slip away, before the heat on all of you new arrivals intensifies
“Rin , I think we should go before this gets any worse”( I shudder at the thought of what happened to Mara) (We head over to the Greystar ship to make a quick escape)
The ship has had its crew mostly kept together, though a few are rotated out , aboard the freeguild station on other duties.
They knew the risks, and maybe another day a rescue for them can be attempted.
03:34
The ship beings powering up its engines as you climb aboard, and head to the bridge.
Aboard, the captain and bridge crew are frantic, trying to get the ship to operational status as soon as possible, before the Freeguild has any idea of what is happening
(So I am technical expert so any thing with computer.I would help with. I would move items as needed. I also have pilot so I could help with take off. I would help as the captain needed.)(edited)
(Finius deftly gets to the control and uses his innate program skills to try and avoid detection. He concentrates and continues to use his programming to help the ship)
(vs their 5)
The ship begins pulling out of the anchorage, and slips into the void of space running through the nebula. The dense interference field and gaseous debris conceals the Greystar vessel on its run out of the system.
The scanner console pings again, showing a 2-strong flight of patrol boats going near the system jump point
“Shit.” (I say as I take another breath and the state) “Captain, we have 2-strong flight of patrol boats going near the system jump point. What would you like to do?”(edited)
Already in this nebula, there 4th planet, closest to system edge is the only stellar object around. It is barren, and also heavily shrouded in the mists
(We can try! The pilot will roll a check for that then, since its now a piloting thing
19:52
The ship nimbly sets down in a large crater and dampens its reactor signature as much as possible. Power cross the ship goes to standby levels, with only life support running, and everyone is instructed to be as quiet as possible.
The mists of the nebula roll in thick, and the patrol boats will be here in moments
(Finius heads for the scanner to make a blinding blast on the patrol boats. He uses the telemetry to try and get the ship out of danger and help the crew to make a quick exit.)
The patrol boats pass over, and as their shadows finish heading over the ship, the corvette's engines spool up to full, blasting to the system edge.
If the patrol boats detect anything, they do not turn around to investigate before the ship leaves the system, on its way home

20:37
(its 5 total days of downtime for the way back to Acastus. There is a stop at Erdoza after the first 2 days)
(You can present your findings to the council if you like, we got a bit bogged down waiting for the others when we should have just kept going on- not your fault,b ut they'd know already if we were allowed to go at you and I's pace)
(Posted my findings. I want to see there next steps. No worries about the wait it happens. ) ( I did have some questions.) Can I use some of the credits from my grey-creations faction for personal purchases?) (Has Shaila been investigated? I was curious about the fire and wanted to look into the high tech facilities) (Lastly, If I wanted to reduce my friction for the planets in the Greystar Confederation do I talk to Eishu or is there only one planet with a governor?)(edited)
(You can't use Fac-Creds for your own purchase, but regular credits earned by far trading can be used personally
Mara met each hovercraft tribe on shaila, and learned that 3/4 of them are fighting one another over the contents of a pretech bunker no one has been able to get into, so it cannot be settled until local tensions are ended. Greystar hasn't really decided how its planets function, or assigned any governors- if its even something they want to do, might also be a good meeting topic)
( I am assuming the fire has stopped on Shaila?) For the bunkers do you mean they can not get into the physical building? If so can I go the planet and do some scans with permission?)
(They know where the building is but they can’t get inside the sinkhole where it’s located, and the other tribes attack anyone who tries , since they all want what’s in there)
18:28
(So additional scans won’t really change anything. It’s just a matter of someone getting in , and keeping the others away while it happens)
( Got it. I t sounds like a peace treaty need to be made with the tribes. I am thinking I would go with another player and hammer out details so we would go in and get the pretech but would share with the tribes, fairly. I am very sure I will need permission for that)
You only get one hit, Jasmine complaining about how the agrikelp farms near where she must be living now have broken down and the smell was terrible. She wants to know who she has to sleep with to get it fixed, as a joke.
I reach out to Jasmine. "Hi Jasmine! I hope you are doing well I am sorry for the lack of contact I just got back on my feet. I heard you have a farm! How is that going? I would love to hear how you have been. -Finius"
There is no reply to the message as another day goes by, though a quick look through records has a rough approximation of where she lives, once you look through farms needing repairs recently.
(You have the address of a farm that was being repaired,t hat she might have smelled, but again, you dont know exactly where she might be living or what her situation might be)
( I will head over to the general area. I will have the security team stay back in a grav car so not to spook people, but have them just in case.) (She may just not want to talk to me.)
18:54
( or a variety of other issues. I will tread carefully)
The three security officers remain with the vehicle but vigilant. The farming complex nearby is undergoing repairs just like jasmines message said it would be, though it doesn’t look like she is standing around.
Several aqua culture farmers and their farm hands are nearby however , watching the repair work in earnest
I would walk over to them and smile and say, "Hello. How are you folks today? I was looking for a friend of mind by the name of Jasmine. Have you seen or heard of her?"( I would show a picture of her from my data pad)
"Ah, thought we saw someone like that out here, she was making some kind of video. Said she had business in the Ash Forest, havent seen her since. Was about two days ago now"
(I nod.) "Thanks for letting me know. The Ash forest can be a large area. Do you know anywhere specifically she would have gone in the Ash Forest? And do you recall the kind of video she was working on?"(edited)
"Thank you for letting me know. I appreciate you time. Here is my contact information incase you remember something more. (At this point I will make a purchase of a ghost walker drone with observation suite and bomber) (Once those are purchased I would head over to the Ash Forest)
The forest is dark, with tall mushrooms adding another layer of shadow to the usually dark and rainy Acastus environment. It is close to third rise now, what amounts to true night on this night world, and here and there small strains of bioluminescent fungus begin to glow as the planet turns away from its weak pulsar sun
"Alright men. It is getting pretty dark. We will start our search when we have more light in the day. Here are some rations to fill your belly. I suggest we sleep in shifts. I will take the last shift."
The night passes with no trouble, and no encounters, though wild fungal hounds howl in the distance as the third moon sets, and the first begin to rise.
The black of night turns into the soupy grey-black of what passes for morning on this world, though it does begin to rain
The mushroom tree top cover is dense, and its almost impossible to see deep down into it from high above. The observation suite does have thermal, and night vision, so under the trees still seems to be an effective place for it in relation to the group
( I move the drone to under the trees and start to use thermal and night vision as needed. I would start looking for heat signatures for people. I am also looking for camera equipment or places that might be good for filming)
there is background heat in the forest from the rains turning into steam, and there are a few hotter signatures as a pack of fungal hounds scatter at the approach of armed humans.
ahead on a branch, the thermal scan is picking up a small warm spot, the size of a handprint
(before we go out I would like to do an internet search for Jasmine; I'd like to search for video Ash forest to see if anything was posted or if I have an idea what she was working on.)
The most recent video remains the video of her in the nearby area, complaining about the smell coming from the farm.
18:21
There is nothing new, though she did seem to fixate on the issue, even getting close to the property a few times and trying to figure out what it might be
(Its hard to see from the msot recent videos. it looks like shes just in the local area last time she was seen, and you found mysterious blood. I don't think just by looking at it youd know if it was male or female)
(With videos some times you can see certain things like location if they have it on or tag it. If most of the area looks like mushrooms then it would look mostly the same unless there are landmarks that are obvious like say the Eiffel tower or Statue of Liberty.)
"Ok men. Lets start searching the area for Jasmine I have sent her picture to your data pads. Please be cautions as there are Fungal hounds and men with guns in the area. Do not engage unless fired upon. Any questions?"
The blood continues, deeper into the woods. There are droplets, a short runnel, and then more drops, all leading to the edge of a creek, where something lies crumpled in the shadow of a large rock.
The shape is irregular and facing away from you. It is hard to tell what it is
"Team 2!, I think I have found something. Here is my location. I am going to check it out. Check in 10 minutes." (I go around the shape to get a better view, giving my self plenty of distance, gun drawn.)
As you round it , to the right, close to the water, you can see it is human, and breathing, but the breaths are shallow, and come with great effort. They are badly injured , whoever they are
You're able to do enough first aid to get her stable, and as you begin treatment, you're able to see that it is your friend, Jasmine
16:58
Medical has been called for, and a mercy helicopter has been scrambled from Ash City, though it is not going to be here for another twenty minutes- and they cannot land in the middle of the woods
(we would retrace our steps once we have something to hold Jasmine) (I create a make shift stretcher for Jasmine. I would use parts from the medical bag and pieces of long branches, If those aren't available I would use my sniper rifle and two of the men to hold her in place. Would you like a roll for that?)(edited)
"Ok men! Lets head out and go out the way we came in. I will radio the chopper to meet us there. Be ready for anything. I want one person in front and another in the back. Do no drop the civilian." (I help the men gather Jasmine and let the medical team know where we are going)
Your companions in the other squad were far from you when you called for help, and meet you halfway back, taking over the duties of carrying her as you and your own guard are both tired.
bright floodlights illuminate a clearing nearby, as the medical chopper lands and the crew rushes out with an actual stretcher to take the patient from you
" Thank you men for your help with Jasmine. Please feel free to return home. I will see you in the morning. Thank you for your service to Greystar, you are what makes us safe" ( I go on the chopper with Jasmine)
Waking up the next morning you have a message that Jasmine is in stable condition, but has not woken up. She was severely wounded, and was also suffering from exposure out in the wilds.
( That depends on how she got hurt. If it was a gun shot or knife I would stay however if it was an animal bite I would just have someone watch her and contact me when she is awake.)
The wounds are inventoried as blunt force trauma to the head, and the remainder from exposure to the elements while she was knocked out.
It is impossible to determine if it is from someone doing it to her, like hitting her with a rock, or if she had lost her footing on something and smashed her head.
Nothing is found at the scene to indicate a weapon was used
Four days go by and the live sign monitor by her bed begins to tick up as she comes back to herself. Tubes are pulled and machines disconnected by dozens of nursing and doctor staff
"I don't remember much. It was raining and I was walking near the border fence for that farm nearby, where those workmen were. They were trying to do something to the air scrubbers. I don't think anyone saw me, but I wans't trying to hide either, I was just out for a walk.
18:05
I remember a really sharp pain in my head, and then everything went dark
" I see. I am not sure how banged up you are. I have a job on Shaila that needs my attention. It pays great credits. If you are better in a few days would you want to join me."
“Ok take care. I will talk to you in a few weeks. With what has happened I have had my guards or I have been watching you. Would you like continued security considering you don’t know what happened”
"that might be for the best, if you can afford it. I...i dont know what youre doing now but you must be important if you have Greystar security listening to you"
( I head out and gather a crew for the Shaila. I am bringing 2 security officers, a translator, and diplomat. I am also buying a Void Hawk (expert system, weapon fitting, holo skin, and ammo unit, storm armor, spike thrower and 5 grenades')
Finius and enough security just to keep the ship secure are dispatched for Shaila, where hovercraft clans still do battle with one another in the desert, both for dominance and to secure the contents of the pre-tech bunker, G10. So far, no one has been able to get in, though the JMU now have the area surrounded
(I work with the diplomat to request a meeting with the JMU) “Greeting and salutations. I am Finius an agent with Greystar we are requesting a meeting with your leadership”
The head of the Jewish Military Union has the rank of general and agrees to meet with you in a neutral spot of your choosing. You are allowed two bodyguards, and his forces will not meet near their encirclement, and he will not be ordering his forces to move from that area while negotiations take place
General, We are looking forward to working with you and your people. Our goal is simple. Negotiate a cease fire between all the clans. We would like to know your demands and what you are willing to help toward that cause.
( I would have the diplomat look this over before I respond.) “Thank you General for your comments. At this time we are negotiating a cease fire for all the clans.
As we all know pre-tech is a commodity in our sector. However this is the last site on the planet. While we appreciate the strength of your position and the hard work that it takes to secure a position. We believe 1 / 3 of the equipment should go to Greystar and the rest would be divided among the clans.
We ask for this because of the need to set up trade routes, landing pads, and polites with other planets that need further talks. The amount of credits for each clan would be in millions if done right.
We also have an aid package to be given to the clans to help pay for trade, food, medical supplies, and the well being of the people.
We can also assist with using the technology and finding fair prices for what is found.
I digress. We want to help your clan but the violence needs to end.”
This settlement is not acceptable. The Jewish Military Union has secured the site, and has held it against repeated attacks by rivals. The JMU will not be sharing spoils with the other clans.
How about a 25/75 split Greystar/JMU for us helping to secure the bunker. You also agree to being the base as the unified government. The contingenceny would be getting the other clans to leave the area peacefully.
(if you wanted to. The deal you brokered here basically just requires you convince the other groups that fighting against the JMU, now backed by Greystar, is not a good idea)
The bunker dive team is only Finius, a technician, and two soldiers, as most of the Greystar unit is on the surface trying to negotiate and secure negotiations for how the rest of the planet will be administered.
Climbing harnesses are passed out, as the bunker door is located at the bottom of a 100m sinkhole, where the sandy earth fell in amid the ruins to reveal it
18:12
The exterior defenses were fought by JMU soldiers and early pioneering attempts at getting in, but the door thus far has remained impassible
The drone heads down into the sinkhole, looking at the circular door that is twice the height of a man.
It is made of three layers, and interior ring, middle ring, and outer ring all made from a banded gold green metal. There is a small sensor pad in the middle, pockmarked with bullet holes from frustrated former attempts to get in. The door is also heavily cut and burn scarred from other people trying to get in
The pad is rebuilt and you’re able to crack the door after spending half a day working on the code.
Anti bacterial sprayers coat you and your companions with mist before letting you step inside an antechamber, where the rolling door reveals a shallow ramp going further down into the ground. It is already dark down here and you can’t see the bottom of the ramp
(Breathing a sigh of relief as the doors finally open. I feel the spray hit me as I wash it off and grab some water and a snack. I get the drones and send them down to map out the area)
(crit/8 on ghostwalker, and 24/8 on Stalker)
as the two drones unpack and pass into the threshhold of the bunker, an emplaced railgun inside, on a swivel turret descends from a port in the bunker's roof and fires a shot at each of them as they cross the doorframe into the bunker to map
(I got a 3 for initiative, which I hadn't done when you attacked, but you go first)
The Spike thrower sends its charged metal spike high into the ceiling, striking the turret and blowing it out, sending the tumble of junk slamming into the ground.
(you got a crit, so 40 damage)
(nice!)( We would then move forward carefully checking for traps and throwing rocks before we enter rooms. I have on my Storm armor.)(Do I seen anything in thermal?)
There is no heat aside from the smoking wreckage of the turret and your slagged drones as the last of their internal power cells fail and cook off.
04:52
(You're in the bottom middle room, where it opens up from the outside, the bottom of the sinkhole(
04:52
a door to the left, and right in the main atrium go off into side cloysters, where a staircase in front of you rises to a second level where there are more rooms
Low level emergency lights come on as you enter the left series of rooms. There are three cell like holding compartments to the south with the words EVERGREEN INDUSTRIES and the symbol of a pine tree painted on the door. The hallway bends to another small work room, but it looks like this is just to allow air to circulate down here
The work room is just a ventilation shaft that allows air to circulate in and out of the bunker , with some controls to increase or adjust the flow if it is needed .Right now, it is not, since you and your small team are the only living creatures inside
The right side is the same, with several locked store rooms, and an engineering space where an air circulator works hard to ensure there is enough air to breathe down here for you
Midway on the stairs, there is a short landing where the gallery doors are open. There is some sort of computer bank on each side, ending in a glowing wall where floor mounted lights keep the workings hidden
(Since the automated security is off, I will open the storage, but I will tell the men before I do that) "Ok people I am opening the storage first, please be ready for anything"(edited)
There is a hiss in both of the storage rooms you had passed already, as the cryoseals open. Several short sirens and voice warnings state to remain clear for a few moments as the freezing chemicals separate into the air, and no longer pose a threat
There are stims inside each of the store rooms, marked Purity League. There are 20 in each room, as the containment units to keep the chemical formulas within are needing special conditions to remain stable are quite bulky(edited)
There is a rattle, and more lights attempt to turn on, before the bunker shakes slightly, and a throaty cough from deep within signals the generator is out of fuel
(Yep , just didnt make it back her eyet)
Arriving in master control left, you see another one of the same terminals here as a backup, and it looks to have the same menu items on it, though there is also a small tool space in the back of this machine, where the other did not have one. 3 type B power cells are inside, and can be removed. They look big enough to power one of the stimm refrigeration units you'd found earlier.
The hallways are marked Engineering West, and Engineering East, and there are warnings on the walls about machinery operatign within, and to watch where you put your hands, but there is nothing specific as to the function of what the machines are inside
"There is radiation ahead. please make sure there are no punctures in your suits and wear all protective gear." ( We forge ahead. I also take pictures and use a camera to document as we move forward.)
Continuing to the central most northern room, the radiation level begins to rise, and you enter what was the power plant for the entire vault. Spent fuel rods litter the ground, the seismic instability has caused many of them to miss the pools of water they were supposed to land into, and the exposed rods continue giving off radiation.
A control panel, shielded against the background rads, sits on standby
The control pad informs you that the reactor is very badly damaged and is in danger of exploding, though the timer on the machine has stopped counting down toward when it expects it might be,
The earthquakes have damaged all the safety systems inside, and there is no way to regain control. It advises anything of value is taken and relocated elsewhere as soon as possible
(Then we go get the stim packs and get out) “Ok folks the reactor is busted and may explode. "Time to get the stim packs and leave” (I coordinate with the people above us for maximum efficiency)(edited)
The power packs are able to keep the containment units cooled until it is time for them to be transported above. There seem to be many other wonders down here trapped within the computer systems, but the discovery of the bomb like conditions have forced everyone to abandon the site as quickly as possible.
On the surface, your ship comes down to allow you all aboard with the powered stim containment units, though the extraction will be an hour or more to get everything aboard.
The JMU has mapped an expected blast radius zone, and is preparing to move its forces off the city encirclement, and into the sand wastes where they will be safe
(I carefully work with the crew to get the materials out and monitor the seismic activity being careful not to use heavy machinery and having non-essential personal out of the blast radius.) "Moving this equipment is vital to all parties, however your safety is far more important. Do not use any heavy machinery that would cause the earth to move. If you feel an earthquake we will need to evacuate."(edited)
(um no. I don't wana blow up in a nuclear blast please and thank you.) (Let me know when it's safe to talk and then I will continue with my next part.)
(you have all 6 cases, didnt open them yet to know how many individual doses or what they are.)
As the ship lifts off, heading into the atmosphere, and the last of the JMU elements clear the area, the bunker explodes in a terrific nuclear fireball, vaporizing the city ruins beyond anything the firestorms could have done, and glassing the desert for a kilometer in all directions.
Fallout clouds now replace the storms here, and it seems once again, the hoverclans will have to continue their endless marches around the wasteland
(I am now level 5. 19 hit points. Administer to 1 and Trade to 1. I am taking the Foci Hacker and since I already have program I will increase Know to 0)
(thats not how the Focus bonus skill points works. You get +3 sp for that skill unless you are already at rank 4 of the skill. If you have program-1 and take the Hacker focus, you will now have Program-2)(edited)
(So your program skill is still 2, with 3 SP applied towards it. Meaning when you hit level 6 you only need to spend 1 skill point to get it to Program 3)
(I assuming that the planet is now a wasteland. Is there an area that they could use as a homebase so they can trade with other planets?) (If not I split up the loot and head back)
Tokatsu Syndicate stims have a porcelain-like ceramic finish with
small ink-brush images “painted” on the surface. They use an
unusually stable nanite formulation; Tokatsu stims never fail to
function unless they have been directly sabotaged.
21:15
The stimms are 50 doses of Lift, a dose of Mirrorball, and a dose of Pices
21:15
Mirrorball
This stim improves the user’s powers of attentiveness, allowing
for an inhuman degree of focus on an intricate or complex task.
While under the effects of Mirrorball the user becomes completely,
utterly absorbed in whatever task they are currently performing.
They are almost oblivious to their surroundings, failing all Perception checks, but gain a +1 bonus on any other skill checks and are
immune to any penalties due to distraction. A dose of Mirrorball
lasts for four hours.
21:15
Pisces
Useful for tourists on water worlds and those with a need to
perform underwater work, a Pisces stim encases the user in a
protective shell that grants them a natural AC of 6. The shell filters
and recycles an internal atmosphere and maintains a comfortable
pressure and temperature down to depths of 1,000 meters. Integral
sonar provides a basic outline of the user’s underwater surroundings out to about 20 meters, and glowspots on the shell can be
triggered to provide light. Pisces shells last for up to four hours,
with the last half-hour of their functionality accompanied by
increasingly-urgent warnings to reach a habitable atmosphere
(These are great! I give these to the medical staff to reverse engineer)
21:35
(I also contact Jasmine to see if she is feeling any better.) “Hi Jasmine! I hope you are feeling better. I was curious if you wanted to do some work for me? I have some far trading that needs to completed. I know you are great with people. Could you help us out”
You get a message a day out from home that she is recovering and otherwise starting to do well, but she has a long road ahead of her before she is back to full strength.
(I had four friends that worked together
Fark: Muscle of the group; strong yet silent
Jasmine: Talker: she could convince you to sell her your pants
Mateo: Brains of the operation; addiction problems
Philo: Driver; Can drive about anything if he could keep it in his pants
We all disappeared once the Still Lady raided the planet. I have not tried to reach contact until now.)
Original message was deleted or could not be loaded.
(Alright) The last time you heard anything about Philo was about a year ago during the time of transition here on Acastus. He had been arrested for boosting cars around the former site of the Still Lady's pyramid. He was released about three months ago, and there has not been anything on public databases about him since.
His last registered address is in the neighborhood of the old pyramid/new site of the Acastus psychic academy
The academy here is a new building, still under construction in some areas. Hammers and welders hiss and pound into the always-night air, and neon signs from surrounding buildings cast the white stonework here in shades of vibrant red, blue, green, and yellow.
The fenced off area is patrolled by local police, who stand by when you approach, recognizing your uniform as a greystar agent
( I walk over to the security guards) "Greetings. How are you gentlemen! I am looking for a man by the name of Philo he may have been around these part in the last few weeks. Let get you a picture." (I pull out the last picture I would have of him and show them on my data pad)
"You think he might be in the neighborhood? Saw someone like that fishing arund in the dumpsters a few weeks ago, near the microtel at the end of the road"
There is a small homeless camp set up in the alley there. A few people huddle around a barrel with a fire in it, and someone else arrives to throw in another handful of trash. The fire obscures their features, along with the dingy and ill fitting clothing
“Alright. So probably not the same now. Nobody around by that name. Is there any other he might use? Or a distinguishing feature like a scar or tattoo?”
"He is big into cars. He has a tattoo of a vintage space car on his right hand and he likes to wear silver shades. He would have been seen fishing into some dumpsters."
The bakery is working on closing for the night and one of the bakers is standing at the front door, setting the keypad to lock so the shop is secure for the remainder of the day
" A friend of mine might have been over here his name is Philio. He would have a car tattoo on his hand and he likes to wear silver shades. Here is a picture. (I show him the picture of Philo on my data pad)
"Oh he was out back the last few nights. I have seen him. I didn't speak with him yesterday, but I left some leftovers around back for him just in case he shows up. "
00:16
"Not sure what your relationship is. Hope I didn't just tell a hitman how to get to him, He seems like a nice enough fellow"
"He is an old friend of mine. We use to work with each other. It seems he has fallen on hard times. If you don't mind I will hang out and try to get a hold of him."
"Alright, have at it. I hope you find him" the baker says, watching the lock turn from green to red, and then walking away, turning the corner at the end of the block
No people are in the alley right now, as the baker had said a moment ago. A small loaf of bread, a few assorted buns, a slice of cake, and a few apples that were not used for baking have been left out, for whoever in the area needs them. Everything is wrapped in leftover deli paper to keep it clean and from direct contact with the ground
( I take a deep breath) "After my mom was captured I had a hard time finding a place that was safe to make contact with anyone. The Still Lady took everything I had. I had to start over and find a place where I was not in fear of my life"
17:46
"I need help on Shaila to drive some hover crafts. We need a good driver that can help us to navigate the area. It pays 10,000 credits and will last a few months"(edited)
"Well, my meals are coming from this dumpster and the kindness of others right now. We're going to have a long talk about some things later on, but I'll take the job. I'd be a damn fool not to"
“Great I appreciate it! We will be leaving in a day or two. I have a place for you to stay in the mean while.” (I take Philo to get the food I promised.)
The terraformer is already on the way with its specialized crew- directly from Buey. They are aware of how the machine works and what they need to do without direct intervention from anyone else
As you arrive the terraformer is already being deployed on the surface, far away from the rad zone and closer to the mountains. For now, everyone is doing their best to get it up and running- though the techs already know what to do and have been well trained by the Fury family, and the technicians from Buey
You set up security but nobody comes to raid it, becusse it they do the world remains a dust bowl of radioactive waste.
(It’s going to be months before the work is done. If you’re staying here for that long I’d suggest a re roll)
(You yourself promised the JMU they'd be the governing body here, so if you intended to honor that promise the trick is getting everyone else to agree with it)
The Golden Sparks are easy to find, having retreated to the south in their escape from the dust clouds. It is clear that some of the respect they might have had from the other clans before is wearing thin, several of their hovercraft including their massive hover workshop show signs of fighting and damage
(Right, you're there, thats how their group looks as you're pulling up)
The vehicles are still moving, but as Philo matches speeds with the main hover fort, a ramp with railings extends, allowing you to walk over to an open hatchway, where two engineers and a guard are waiting to bring you inside.
( I walk up the rank with a small escort. I approach one of the guards) " Greetings! I am look for an audience with your leadership. I am Finius from Greystar"
"You'll be brought up to the control deck to meet with our leaders, which is why we are insisting on only you coming up. If you agree to this, we can go up there now"
You’re taken up the winding stairs to the control deck where the two chief engineers of the Golden sparks are waiting. They have minimal security with them and are eager to speak given the changes the planet is undergoing
“Hello, it is a pleasure to meet each of you. As we are setting up a government for the planet we want to find a place that is fitting for your skill set and one that is beneficial for all of us. Tell me your thoughts.”
“Our skill set I think speaks for itself. Greystar has interviewed us exhaustively about it already.
you threw in with the JMU, and they have an understanding with us as we keep their hover tanks working , and have helped them against raiding clans in the past.
If Greystar takes over the maintaining we lose our social role here, our services are no longer necessary. You’ve got skilled people here who are good with tools and plans. Don’t squander us “
"We have no interest in taking over; we want to support you by giving you access to supplies and materials. So you would be in charge of setting up an maintaining the new infrastructure such as access to clean water. I know this could be seen as a trivial matter but it is a vital need to keep things working. Would that be a fair belief?(edited)
“Or continue in your same capacity if you like. I just know the government will need infrastructure.” (I smile) “It seems like you have a good relationship with the JMU.”
(Ponders for a moment) “What role would your clan like to have in the new government?” (I pause) “ I want you to know you do have a voice. I am working towards a government that can work for all the clans.”
"I think we gave our answer already. If you set up public water and power, or other utilities everyone needs, leave us to run them. It will force the others to listen to us in ways that don't involve violence"
(they wouldn't have anything else, the JMU and sparks already got along decently and even with what GS wants to do now, they both have sort of natural niche's to occupy)
The flock of new Israel is scattered into three main hosts out in the desert and consisted of most of the day laborers and other mixes of people who escaped the disaster early on in the planets post scream history.
The clan leader has a large blue and white pavilion on his tent , along with a brass Star of David made from scrap on a tall mast so the other wanderers can find the craft
“Thank you for the hospitality.” ( I take a moment to watch as dust swirls from the terraformer is starting to take hold several hundred miles away) “It is wonderful to meet you. Before we get started were there any question?”
"Probably crushed under the boot heels of the JMU, or the others. The Jewish people are used to this though." He takes a long sip of tea and laughs sardonically to himself "God's chosen people but continually condemned, enslaved or murdered. This time it's going to be at our own hands. The joke really is coming full circle now"
" I am not familiar with Jewish history. I think it would be best to stick with history on Shaila unless you want to give me the full history lesson. I leave that to you."(edited)
"We had a prosperous time here, though there were divisions between us along professional lines. Your soldiers, skilled labor, unskilled labor, and those who never really fit into any of the categories. We split into clans along those lines once The Scream happened and the firestorms appeared. You flee with the people you're close to, you know?
We were a sad people, and still are, but one cannot look at our plight of wandering the desert and hoping for better days and not be reminded of the past, wandering from Egypt under Moses, hoping to get to the promised land of Israel. We will find our land of milk and honey one day too, if we search and atone long enough"
That is quite the struggle. " How do you feel about your clan working with trade? It means communication with different groups and evaluating commerce and helping with shipment. These is one of the most important parts of getting Shalia back on track."(edited)
"Your suggestion is the kind of labor we would be good at, and it keeps us out of the dust. I can see where the others might fit into this plan of yours, and all you need now is some group doing the actual hard labor.
That's going to be a rough sell, I wish you the best of luck"
I am bringing Philo my two drones, and 5 soldiers. I will let them know this is dangerous. "We are not looking for a fight. If shooting stars we may have to leave. " (I will also ask for some backup from the JMU)
(They're too far away to be able to assist, and its probably not a good look for them to be enforcing the terms by force on people theyre supposed to be living peacefully with)
On this first day of exploration, the faint returns of a hovercraft formation are seen near the mortuary tower, but an incoming rad-dust storm forces both groups to scatter before some kind of a meet can be made. This close, you're unable to outrun it, and your group is suggesting taking shelter inside, even if it is full of the dead
Close to midnight, the sandstorm outside rages, and there is a careful eye kept on the Geiger counter. Right now it is elevated but not enough for you to be in danger of getting sick.
There is a spiral staircase running top to bottom, linking the many floors of the tower. Close to the top, there is a bang, and something metallic scrapes across the floor before the place somehow falls more silent than it was before. Even the wind feels muted
The drone spots a humanoid figure on the top floor with a long staff, capped with an hourglass. It sits on a stone bench near the window, watching the sandstorm outside though in the darkness you cannot see its face through the drone's sensors
Her voice is raspy, but you're able to hear it over the howling wind
"And none will come to you, if you remain below. You trespass in the home of the dead"
“I am not from here. I was stranded hear four years ago when The Scream happened. It took my face, and my real name” she says, pulling her hood tighter
“The order of quiet oblivion has a ship being made on Acastus by Aiya-tech. If you bring me there I can make my way home, and I’ll see to it the both of you are rewarded. You and Ai ya founder
“It was near harvest and we had to find the place for the mushrooms. When all of us realized that the fungus was stolen we had some suspicions. Later that day we found a full belly wolf licking its lips after one our crew left the barn door open. Moral of the story don’t trust your drunk friend to do simple tasks.”(edited)
She smirks, as much as you can see at least.
"Alright, well, I have always been a member of The Order of Quiet Oblivion, taking care of the universe's dead. I was trapped here when The Scream happened, and going out onto the plains seems like a bad idea, first the fire, now the radiation.
I am just looking forward to going home. The dead in these catacombs have been blessed dozens of times over"
"We bury them on our world if their home planet's choose to send them to us. It once was a great honor to be taken in by our Order, as it meant your life, lineage, and deed would be endlessly catalogued forever. A sure way to enter the fabric of the universe and its history. "
01:44
"There is no escape from entropy though, not even for our order. Traditions rust just as metal and memory does, over time
The storm passes early in the morning and the group sets off once more. A pair of red flares 10km away shoot high into the sky as you begin firing up your own sand skimmers
the sandstorm abates by morning, and you once again mount your skimmers to find the elusive raider clans. There are high volumes of particulates in the air, and the drone engines are not starting properly as they begin spooling up
You're able to clear most of the sand from the intakes, but any kind of long term adaption is going to be difficult. If you remember to clean the engines as part of your evening duties every night (you or a team member) , the drone should function normally
The drone goes up again, circling many times as your vehicle makes its way north this time.
Around mid day, a skimmer is sighted on the horizon, 10km away, though as soon as they spot the drone they begin packing up their gear and preparing to get onto the skiff. It's clear they're one of the raiders
The skimmer is moving away as you close distance to 8 kilometers. They are actively trying to outrun your vehicle, and moving toward them is exactly sometihng they do not want-especially since you have not been able to signal them.
From five miles away, and with both your engine running, and their engine running, any hope of hearing your unassisted voice is a fools endeavor, and their vehicle continues running
There is a meteor shower during the night, but the rocks pass through the system's atmosphere rather than crash landing on the planet, only catching just enough atmosphere to make a pleasant fiery trail on their passage.
The following morning you see the same skiff 10km north of your position once again, likewise unwilling or unable to brave the almsot complete darkness of the planet's night cycle.
Your crew concentrates on driving the skiff closer, and is unable to assist with the combat. (Morale passed 6v6 for the HMG, the melee pirates aren't going to get any closer though)
On the deck, the heavy machine gun fires , hoping to scrape you from the deck before you have the chance to do anything foolish (15/10)
The skiff rocks and two of the soldiers on it are blasted clear, as the shockwave hurls their broken bodies over the rails.
The heavy machine gun swivels to track you in the dunes, as youre all surrounded by nothing but endless sands.
(14/12)
The lone soldier still on the deck levels his combat rifle and fires (20/13), trying to assist the gunner on the HMG
(We'll handwave it this time, since you did buy it, but please please please take care of your sheet going forward. It helps me a lot and its the only thing i ask you guys to do)
The turret sparks as the armor plating around it is hit.
As you're still in the dunes, the sand provides no cover to you, especially bulked out in power armor as you are.
The shots from the heavy machine gun kick up large clouds of sand but miss, and the rifleman on the vehicle's deck likewise misses
(you teleported like 10km away from them before i looked at your sheet and noticed a ton of stuff was wrong that we're fixing now. The skiff would be coming to assist but with each round only being about 6 seconds they're a long way off)(edited)
There is a spray of red as the gunner falls over the front of the turret, shot through the neck.
alone, on a heavily damaged skiff he does not know how to pilot, the remaining raider attempts to surrender
(it doesnt heal HP within scenes but allows you to passively heal during rest when you normally would not be able to, like in the wilderness away from a hospital)
05:20
(so you have not generated any additional hitpoints as is right now)
the opposing raider is cuffed as your skiff finally catches up to the rest of the battle, and your small security team takes him into custody.
He is available to talk if you decide to do so , as your choice to rest means you'll be here on the dune sea for at least a night, and these raiders were likely due to report in somewhere
(With a sigh a breath) " We are not looking for war. The planet is about the change. Did you notice all the dust and the big device that came on the planet. That is a tereformer. It will change the planet. It will make it habitable. You wont have to fight each other over resources. We are looking to work with the raiders not against them."
You are correct that we are looking for people to help with labor. If we work with the other clans we might be able to solve some of that through drone technology. I am still working on that aspect." (I take a few minutes and then say) "What would the raider clans bring to the table? What position would they want to do?"
"Most of us are unskilled, its why raiding is something a lot of us turned to, especially after the disaster. What hope did someone with no other skills have?
We just don't trust that conditions here are going to be as good as you promise, and by the time we'll know for sure, your great society will be here and it will be too late
"This is something we can work with. What if we offered training for the skills you were interested in? We could also raise the rate for labor where it would be better for both parties and better conditions. Scraping by is not something we want any one to do. What can I do to show trust?"
"Ok I am going to untie you. I am now asking for a meeting with your boss. This is really important and can change the course of the raiders and the rest of the planet. Can you do this for me?"
“We will get you food and water. Thank you for agreeing to come with us. We will head out.”(I grab him some food and water) “Alright folks lets head out to the destination that the raider will show us.”
Morning dawns and though you're still pretty badly banged up, you feel a bit better than you did before going to sleep.
The raider is bound once again just to ensure nothing happens during the drive, and one of the soldiers stands near him to ensure accurate navigation.
02:26
(last chance for any other prep before we get to the meeting)
The raider spends the morning guiding you through the winding sands to a large encampment where dozens of skiffs have set down into idle- waiting for their solar sails to recharge. One of them is a triple wide and long skimmer, more of a sail barge than raider.
" Alright folks we are going to try and have a meeting with theses folks. Philo I want you ready to go if fighting breaks out. There is no way were are going toe to toe with these folks." ( I also ask the raider what the meaning of the yellow smokes was)
I call out to the lead skiff with a megaphone. "Greetings and salutations. My name is Finius and I am a representative of Greystar. I come here to negotiate a cease-fire for the people of Shaila. I am asking for a meeting with the leadership of the raiders. I mean you no harm."
The representatives are not going to leave their pleasure skiff, but a large bay opens up in the side of it to allow yours to come inside, no doubt there will be a welcoming team waiting there for you to pull in
“You’re free to meet with them. Alone and unarmed. That is non negotiable. You’re coming into our house for talks.
Your safety will be guaranteed while inside “
You’re frisked for weapons and after finding none they allow you to pass, heading up through the many levels of the large skiff to a meeting room where music, drinking, games of chance, and all manner of distraction is occurring. A large man in a suit sits behind a long table with several hanger ons and guards, all attention from them turns to you as a newcomer
(I take a seat. ) ”My goal was to find a raider that would take us to you for peace talks. I was trying to talk to the raiders. They attacked us with a mini-gun. I had no choice but to defend ourselves. I even asked them to stop and they chose to fire on me. I am glad that there is at least one survivor. Is there more information that you desire?”
As best as I can remember I said I have food, then I said I have pretech" ( I sigh) " Later they said the pre-tech would make them look good to you and the boss would want it."
There are some faint smiles around the table
"Perhaps we trained them too well. We can agree to let this be past us as an unfortunate incident. You need to understand most of these men and women are young, with no other prospects. They're willing to chew their arms off if it looks like there is a scrap of opportunity for them to get ahead"
“I would tend to agree. I have a plan to remedy there prospects for these young men and women but I think the more immediate concern is a cease fire.” (I take a breath) “ Tell me some of about what we will need to do to make a change to end these hostilities. As we know the world is quickly changing and I wanted all clans to be treated fairly.”
"You've given security, trade, and specialist roles to everyone else. Someone's working the fields, someone's stamping parts in the factories.
We're all thats left, and its going to fall to us. It's no better and in a lot of cases probably a worse life than the ones these people had before The Scream"
20:49
"and we haven't heard anything about how Greystar plans to do anything about the inequality"
“Could you tell me more about what you mean by inequality? I need some examples.
Yes, the major problem is that we need people working in the fields and stamp in the factories. My first solution is that we use drones that can do the heavy lifting and have people supervise the technology. I also want to vastly increase the pay, benefits, and housing for those doing the hard labor. This would be a union for fair rights. Those that choose to do the hard life would be well-taken care of. For example, I am looking at a starting wage of 15 credits a day. This is subject to negotiation.
I would also offer training to those that wanted to do other jobs. We would help those that are unskilled through internships and support in the classroom.
Lastly, I want to start producing better medicine that is currently unavailable in the sector on the planet. I want the raiders to be a part of this from the ground up and offer ownership to those involved. I have the credits, but I will need people that are willing to try something new.”(edited)
"You provided your own examples there. The difference between skilled and unskilled labor. 15 credits a day is pathetic, that was the before Scream rate when there were trillions of people across the galaxy.
We're aware we represent human capital you need. We're going to need more than promises"
"At this point we have an aid package that if you agree to sign the money, food, water, and supplies will be transferred to your people. The wage can be adjusted dependent on need. Once you form a council that will be something that will need to agreed to internally. I still have not heard from what you will agree to nor what your people are willing to do."(edited)
"We've told you what we need to form an agreement with you. We have more to gain through raiding and taking than we do as the underclass of the new world order you're trying to put together.
You've brought the JMU, Sparks, and the Flock together already, promising them the best positions regardless of their ability- entitled to them because of their origin"
(They see the system you've created as like a caste system. JMU is military because they're JMU, sparks are technicians because they're the sparks, ect. There's no way for the groups to integrate easily because their role in this new society is determined by clan, not by ability.
there's no room for social mobility for them, even if you're paying them a little betteR)(edited)
"Keep in mind this is a draft. Cease-Fire Agreements
Our current aid package is 1,000,000 credits if you sign the agreement. We agree that the starting wage is 30 credits per day for hard labor. We will provide housing and benefits.
We will further agree:
Any raiding will not be tolerated; all those that seek to steal and harm others will be dealt with by force of law.
The raiders will elect a representative on the council.
People will be given the opportunity to find work through ability."(edited)
"And you've got the other groups to agree to this? We're holding the bag with our pants in the wind if they're not- clutching a compact guaranteeing social mobility when none of them have a reason to"
" I have not spoken to them about this yet. I can go and talk with them and get back to you. I believe if you can agree to the other aspects then I think I can get them to agree. While I am doing that could you agree to a temporary cease fire for a few days?"
"Thank you. I will be heading out and speaking to the other clans. I have a document here that shows an agreement to a cease fire. I would ask that you sign it to show proof to the other clans."
(I follow the drill my weapons and men stay on the skiff. I wave to the guards as I come in and then speak to them) “I have news and need to speak with leadership”
“I have good news. The raiders have agreed to a temporary cease fire. I have documents to prove this. To continue this trend the raiders want whats called social mobility. This means they want to integrate with the other clans. They will be trained to do the job and be given additional support from Greystar. If your clan agrees to this then we are much closer to a peaceful transition”
"Greystar is going back on its word now? You promised that even the least qualified of us would have a role as a technician in this new society. We won't agree, and we're beginning to question Greystar's motives and political sincerity"
“We are not going back on our word. Your clan will still keep the roles. They will just get more training and support. We are offering more to you not less”
(When I started this I thought the intention was for clans to be in charge of certain areas not a caste system, but ce la ve! Anywho..) (Any place to buy healing herbs? If not I head over to the raiders)
“Unfortunately when I talked to sparks and we did not come to agreement on social mobility. This is a disaster. I feel for your people and want to help the raiders. Would you be interested in another planet?”
(Stabilization Overrides would work first, although be warned that the Stabilization Overrides reduces your overall con modifier and will reduce your max hit points as a result.)(edited)
(What? No. Line Shunts do not make things wireless.)
Direct Interface, Level One: A series of universal interface ports are implanted in the subject in conjunction with a subvocal pickup unit and audiovisual patch films for ears and eyes. As a result, the user can control and receive input from most standard electronic equipment without accessing the usual keyboards, screens, or controls. Wireless-capable devices can be operated from within thirty meters, while others gear usually allow for direct plugs to jacks usually implanted along the spine. While this operation is hands-free, the controls require standard subvocalization and subtle somatic gestures, and are no quicker or more precise than standard methods.
21:10
Line Shunt: These palm-sized discs are roughly one centimeter in thickness, with an adhesive side that will stick to virtually anything and a polychromatic phased compound on its shell which will shift color to blend with its surroundings. One or more line shunts must be applied at specific locations within a site to access the more well-defended varieties of computerized systems. Shunts employ phased energy manipulation tech, and so do not need to be directly in contact with a data line but only within a few centimeters. Line shunts are single-use, and keep functioning until removed.
(There is no mechanic in game that makes something wireless. Generally speaking most TL4 computer equipment are wireless capable. This will be something that you will have to ask Neko as situations arise.)
(I have a few more things to purchase. Once that is done I would like to look into freeing my characters mom. I tried with the director before but the player was busy. I saw that he was an NPC can we start from there?)
(So no stabization over ride. I will get Direct interface instead, 5( 125) healing powders 2 rush, (70) low light goggles 200, I would like to modify my spike thrower with auto target and boosted (6,000) I'd like to allow my armor to fly is that possible with modification?)
(there is an Icarus harness that offers a short jump and some fall damage prevention)
20:42
(but actual flight is a telekinetic and a couple mage tree perks , so there's a lot of other people's concept stepping on by allowing a mod to do those things too)
You're brought to the Greystar prison, where she is being held. She is clean, getting enough food, and has been exercising routinely while also speaking with staff about her psychological health.
She's as good as she can be in captivity
There is no listed release date
"Lifetime. Things have not changed. The Greystar Council spoke with you on this matter, and has not reconvened on the issue"
(The council said they would have Kenesh look into it and he couldnt then I asked Eishru but he was not able. Is The director still around can I ask him about my mom?)
Director Kensh clears a space in his busy schedule to meet with you, unsure of what you wish to talk about- knowing only you've returned from Shaila recently after a long series of negotiations.
his office is dimly lit, but still brighter than the outside. A cup of coffee sits steaming on his desk, along with a wrapper from a bar of Acastan Chocolate. He waves you in, and a chair slides out for you on small grav motors controlled from the desk
" Greeting director, How are you? I am here to look into the releasing of my mother. She is imprisoned for a lifetime for defending herself from attacker. I would ask that she is freed."(edited)
The Director sits back in his chair and looks right into your eyes.
“Your mother wouldn’t be incarcerated if the issue was cut and dry as she defended herself and caused harm to someone else.
You just a few months ago told the Greystar council that she was jailed for political reasons and said nothing about an attacker or being attacked , so either you’ve lied to the council, or lied to me.
Which is it Agent? Who are you spinning falsehoods to?”
(I take a breath and state) "Not all the information would be have made available. During the upheaval with the Still Lady they wanted to take down the royal family by force is necessary. . There was an attack on the palace. My father was shot and killed. As the guards attacked my mother fought back. They arrested her and said it was to stop political unrest. That is why I simply say political reasons. I was not trying to lie to any one I just didn't want to dig up the past. Nor complicate the matter." (A small tear floats from his eye to remember his departed father).
“I can’t in good faith allow her to go free. This is all information you had a chance to give to the council and didn’t. I can’t trust your word now, and I don’t trust you or your mother either.
If you can get another group or polity to offer her sanctuary we will exile her, otherwise she will remain confined in prison.
As for you, this story seems contrived and at best you’ve shown you don’t trust this government or your fellow agents. We will be reviewing your agent credentials.
That’s all for now. Get out of my office”
(I think we should just drop the whole prison mom plotline since its been a source of endless confusion and contention. The situation with the backstory/not knowing it/guessing and it being inconsistent is a dead horse by now.
We know what the problems are, we can just drop it and keep adventuring)
(Let’s continue with looking for friends. My computer is having issues and well theres that whole work thing. How about looking into Fark? The muscle of the group)
Fark's ID was pinged booking an off-world flight to Buey, and that was a few months ago when space travel was safe again. There is no record of what he might be doing there after he disembarked at the shipyard on that planet, but someone must have seen something
"I just saw your friend, that's all. I don't really want to get roped into anything that might be dangerous in the future. Good luck though. I hope you find him"
In earlier days, St. Elmo's lighthouse was a settlement formed around a very tall lighthouse meant to guide deep water ships into port or around the rocky shoals that dot the area of the important sea crossing. Generations of sailors have owed their lives to the lighthouse keepers, and that continues as sailors now traverse both the sea and the stars.
Still performing its maritime navigation duties, St. Elmo's also coordinates the space traffic, system defense, and finer details of Buey's shipbuilding process. The lighthouse keepers and their families, along with the general townsfolk are some of the better off on this planet and were spared much of the violence of the war against the Fungal Viceroy.
The administrative center is nestled in the shadow of the massive lighthouse, firmly in shade in the midday sun. A small line is forming outside, and your plainclothes officers check the street and corners, before deciding its safe enough for you to approach. Flashing your credentials will allow you to skip the line, but you do not know who might be watching
(I go to one of the clerks) “Greetings! I am looking for my friend Fark. I have picture here. I know he landed possibly a few months ago. Could you tell his possible where abouts?”
The city had a large hole on tbe middle where the terra former was taken out and taken away, now in use on Shaila. The world is becoming green again there.
Large fields of plants from Espinoza surround the liberated city, working to pull the fungus from the soil through their own grow process. The fury family has perfected this.
The drone is unable to operate. Residential ECM disables any drone aircraft within 10km of the city due to its occupied status. Youll have to do this the old fashioned way
(there isnt one. It doesnt really need one for this even)
22:05
You're able to find someone out of work who knows the city well, after about a half hour of looking for a guide. He is younger than you by a few years, and has a slight limp, but makes up for it with a good attitude and in depth knowledge of the city's workings
The walk is about twenty minutes through winding streets, and before long you're brought to the scrapyard, where Fark is not paying much attention to anyting but the precarious pile of metal fragments he is stacking to haul for himself
“I am putting the band back together. I have a legitimate business but I will need your help and expertise. This is all above board and we can help people.”
"The business is called Grey Creations. We are for now a trading company. As we now have the ability to make a profit we are moving into education and pharmaceuticals. I want to get the worlds better medicine. The problem is we need to find the supplies to make the medcine. I would rather people not have to use addictive substances. This will take exploration, trade, and adventure. Any part of this interest you?"
" We will in time. I am planning on growing but we need to protect what we have. Would you like to tour our facility? I would love to hear your ideas."
"That's what I'm asking, hwat do you even have for me to try to protect? I don't quite know what im doing with all this still. I'm interested, really, but how would you react if our roles were reversed?"
"Right now, I have a small security force and bases in Acastus, Buey, Leda, and Suha. I will be adding a small army as well. In the coming months more bases will be added. I am asking to help you protect for our future investments"
( My next effort is to look into Jahnavi. I'd like to bring a survey crew to find resources. I would be buying equipment to look into the water. My attempt will be to 'hack' the nanomachines. Will I need permission from the group to do this?)
(It is not possible, we do not have anywhere close to the technical or industrial backing to even attempt right now. What about your plan to survey on Jahnavi? )
Surveying equipment is packed into a ship (whichever of yours isn’t off trading right now) along with a few extra men and women to operate it.
Jahnavi is three days from here on a southern course , and their platform Lower Heaven stands guard over the planet to greet all newcomers to the world of the Red Sangha
(As we land I greet them.) “I t is wonderful to be on this planet. We are looking to do some surveying. Might I have a conversation with your leadership about some other matters?”
Abbot Daniel Balvarata is the planets leader, a man close to 50 and close to the end of the typical lifespan for a member of the Enlightened.
His path has woven through those of many Greystar members. He is calm. Even of voice and has a smile of Pearl white teeth
"Abbot Balvarata, please. That is my name, and my title. Others from Greystar have surveyed but quit their efforts rapidly, when there was no immediate payoff. You're welcome to survey as well, but most of the world is an ash waste. You might not find what you're looking for with the time investment of only a few days"
“I apologize Abbot Balvarata. I meant no disrespect. It sounds like we may need to be here for a month. If it is ashen waste do we think a Prometheus project would help to improve the planet?”
"The red Sangha has the technology we need .That project is not necessary. We're looking simply to restore the land, and salvage any pieces of the past that might be useful to us"
19:37
(they're TL4, just not a lot of them and most of their planet is in ruins)
(I have two goals here. 1 scavahge 2. See if I can get the planet trading. If we want to scavange first that’s fine. We can come back to it later. I was seeing if he has any leads. I think I will need to speak with the red sangha about the fantical group. So lets do the scouting first.)
A map of the planet is spread out on a table (can also be found on world anvil) , and Abbot Balvarata is interested in seeing where you plan to begin your search
(I study the map for a few minutes.) " I point to the lower left quadrant. Have people been there? I am looking for a place that has not been explored."
"Natalia Toivonen of Greystar was close once, months ago, but did not go down past the rough equator region. If you're running south further than that, youll be in uncharted territory"
(I get the people together and get enough rations for a few weeks. If that's not possible I would have some flow in on a ship and pick up in a week or so,)
(Great! We head out! I will be using my drone(s) and my Direct Interface Lvl to search for wireless technology I am using the direct interface to ping as we search)(edited)
The southwestern ruins were a city once where millions fo people once lived. The city was relentlessly shelled , destroying buildings , flattening homes and turning farms into fields of ash.
A ruined military base, a factory complex, and town hall seem to be the only sites here that have any kind of discernible structure left to them
Within 20m of the base, peering through the drones forward sights you can see a command center, a vehicle bay, and a barracks before a flash of light from the surrounding perimeter walls blinds you, and the drone feed is cut. ECM, or it being shot down has stopped the signal(edited)
ALmost all of the team aside from you and your three guards has no combat experience at all. The defenses will need to be handled before they're willing to go down and survey- especially since the base is alert enough to down a passing drone
The ship is not willing to risk itself getting close to the base, setting you down with your guards,a nd gear 3km from the base before blasting off and escaping back to safety in orbit. You see a single column of black smoke on the horizon, about a kilometer away likely marking where your drone was downed
The drone has been jammed. The damage on its body is from crashing, not from weapons fire, but the control and remote piloting systems are fried, as is its flight recorder.
(there's no instruments on the drone that werent fried to get the information from. All you know is the base has something capable of doing it, which is still good information)
( I will mark on the map where my drone is and I will head forward with my team.) "Alright folks we need to check out the base. We will come back for the drone later." (Is my drone fixable?)
Moving forward through the ash dunes you see evidence of some light activity here. Tracks from vehicles cross the dunes and you find some trash of dried ration wrappers about a kilometer from@the base
(As we move forward I inspect the tracks and the wrappers). “We are not alone people stay close. ( I turn on thermal to start looking for body signatures once we get closer. I will be ready)(edited)
Approaching the fort you can see that the weapons are showing up as hot, but there are no human defenders in sight
An open gate allows access to the fort, but the defense system is on . And since your drone is jammed is hardened against electronic attacks
(You can’t hack, the base is hardened against electronic attack)
The fragmentary footage you’ve pulled from the drone shows a weakened western wall where you might be able to scale the rubble , and get a better look at the inside of the base
Your men cover you as you move to the entry point. The doors slide open almost effortlessly, and they cross the compound to slip inside with you without taking any enemy fire
18:01
Original message was deleted or could not be loaded.
The doors open, and a facility status terminal on a center-room console begins powering on-sensing the presence of people.
The base map shows heavy damage in most of the sections this can detect, as well as a handful of other status lights you can't identify. The base has running logs showing a violent struggle between the Left and Right Hands of Liberation was fought here some years ago, with both sides seeming to determine the base was no longer of ,military value or worth occupying when the fight was done. The defenses were switched on, and the area was left to the passage of time.(edited)
3 is an access hallway that wraps around the southern side of the base. The hallway is made of a rough stamped metal and you're able to get around some fallen ceiling debris into what lies beyond, which is(edited)
15:30
straight ahead to an engineering section, or north to a sealed door. There was a sign on it once but the paint has been scorched away and its impossible to know whats on the other side now
Engineering consists of the two large batteries that harness sunlight and wind power to keep the base running. A reactor was never fitted here, and too many of the panels and windmill towers elsewhere were destroyed. There is 23% charge left in the batteries, and in this standby mode, most of the base is still offline-aside from the jamming field and some light anti-air defenses
The engineering section has a keypad that you could force your way through. The bulkhead doors look fairly thick otherwise but on a long enough time span you could cut through
The doors beep once loudly before venting steam and allowing you entry to the room.
The base status computer system is in this room along with the security controls
( I would hack the system and look for cameras and turn off the security) " Ok folks were are a going to hold up here while I interface with the security for a bit. Hang tight."
With security down, its a small thing to walk in. Two large tanks of water, and a large console against a wall show that a small matter printer occupies the room. It was widely used pre-scream for fabricating small replacement parts for existing technology such as focusing coils for laser rifles, or spare parts for vehicles.
most of its database is corrupted, the plans no longer present within. Something like this would also be notoriously difficult to move without a legion of skilled help.
“Woa this is some great tech! This would really help some people. I better document this” (I take the time to take pictures and video of this so I can show people. I go next to room 7)
Something stomps on the other side of the door when you approach. There is a hiss of steam and a gurgle of draining chemicals on the other side of the closed door
There are doors before entering (between 8 and 7) that you can open, right now they're closed and you can hear the same sounds of steam gurgling and belching.
The doors to room 9 open since you’re in command of the security system here. Inside a turret dangles from the ceiling which is now inert and slack in its mounting.
A barracks room occupied this space once but the inhabitants are long gone
The safe is picked after a few moments of careful work with a scope and thin wire. There is a click, and it swings open revealing the contents, which is a paltry amount of credits, and the arming codes for the base vertical missile cell.
Those launchers could be recovered for torpedoes on future ships
(I give the credits to the men and make a note. I take the codes)(Oh wow. Now I want to look back at the computer and see if it has any information on the possible information in room 7-8) “Let see if we missed anything about the thing that is moving around”
( We go to the door wear we heard the creature). "Ok men. I need you to find cover and draw away from me while I try and hack this thing if I can." (Once everyone is in position I will take some rush to give myself the advantage. I have my pad in one hand and gun in another and I open the door)
The hulking colossus bot is 20m from you at the back of the chamber. It’s arms end in large caliber cannons and a small pilot lights for a flame weapon peeks out over its right shoulder.
The head section is densely armored and set slightly into the chest
(You have been saying 3 since we went looking for Fark)
21:36
(and you've been referencing them this entire time. Each of them is firing a weapon. We would need three rolls.
Also, why does your "thermal pistol" say spike thrower, and have burst apparently)
the weapon you are using does not damage the robot, and your guards are unable to land a solid hit either as the twin cannons begin spinning.
(evasion save)
(17 damage halved from 35, pass or fail the NPC's are getting mulched)
The heavy streams of gunfire are stopped only in part by the Storm Armor Finius is wearing, but the kinetic energy still causes bruising and wounds. The guards are not quite so well protected and vanish in splatters of red/pink mist, taken by the wind and scattered against the metal walls of the room
(16 and 14, both miss) The bots cannons cycle again, as fresh ammunition feeds are connected.
The multi barreled weapons cycle and seem to shriek as the air around them is riddled with percussive bangs. Brass casings dance onto the floor in a jingling rain like pouring out a chest of jewels or coins.
The shots stitch lines across the pavers, and the wall behind you as you make your way almost to the door. The iris hatch ahead of you opens, sensing someone is near and you can see the hallway behind it
Rounding the corner, and exiting the room, you hear the stomping of the warbot behind you, but it seems the doorway is not big enough to allow it to exit, or it cannot wander far from what it is guarding.
You
( I breath a sigh of relief. I take some time to gather my thoughts and think of a better plan to deal with this monstrosity.) I Radio the ship. " Come in ship we have an emergency situation here. Is there any available personnel?"
(I think the closest analogue to that would be the demo charge item. I don't see why not. The demo charge is the stats we will use for what you're making)
“Ok marines I need everyone down here we have a real threat on our hands. Bring the best weapons and best armor you can find. Once you are ready radio me and we will go over the game plan”
It takes them half an hour to get kitted up. Combat field uniforms and combat rifles seem to be the order of the day, starships are not known to commonly be carrying large amounts of heavy weapons or explosives- as they have no practical need on a starship
( The plan is that I will take some rush and teleport with the demo charge. Get to a safe distance and then they all fire as the creature will fire on me at first.)
(I want until the men are ready and in position no noise from this point out.) ( I take a giant huff of the Rush and then teleport into the frey, Demo charger in one hand and Spike Thrower in another.)
(7 to hit 12 damage) (22 to hit 5 damage;) (12 to hit 7 damage) (6 to hit 9 damages) (8 to hit 7 damage) (4 to hit 8 damage) (19 to hit 12 damage) (22 to hit 6 damage) (20 to hit 4 damage) (20 to hit 8 damage)
The robot rolls back a few paces on its legs, as the combat rifle shots strike it.
The trademark cannons from your last encounter begin whirling again (evasion save)
Half the squad is critically wounded , the others are likewise unlucky though fare a bit better, None are dead so far, but another around of shooting will undoubtedly be sending more people home in bodybags
(You’re within 40m as well so you’ll be taking the same damage. Using the charge is your main action so you won’t also be able to do a weapon attack)(edited)
(6 to hit 11 damage) (13 to hit 3 damage) (7 to hit 7 damage) (7 to hit 7 damage) (18 to hit 8 damage) (18 to hit 5 damage) (10 to hit 2 damage) (7 to hit 10 damage) (23 to hit 5 damage) (11 to hit 9 damage) (And they move back 10m)
Sparks and shorn armor plating tumble off the bot, exposing some of the more vulnerable components under its skin. There is a thump as its cannons reload with fresh feeds, and it fires again
(Evasion save)
(7 damage, I halved it from 13)
The entire marine contingent is scythed down, the heavy caliber rounds piercing through their combat armor with ease, leaving you, and ten dead men facing off against a wounded battle robot.
The shots knock something important through the middle, and the robot does not look like it has much fight left in it. You're now 20m away, and halfway from safe demo charge range.
23:09
The flame weapon on the bot's shoulder begins to glow brightly, and the nozzle hisses ejecting volumes of boiling plasma in a directed cone toward you;
The shot from the weapon you're holding isnt enough to punch through the remaining metal struts and composite plates that comprise what little armor the robot has now.
(30m away based on your last move, so 10m more and we're safe-ish)
It fires with the gattling cannons again, this time not needing to suppress as you represent its singular foe.
(20/9 which drops you to 0)
(Checking a couple things. Robots HMG's are heavy weapons, and stabilizing just brings you to 0, which I'm not sure if you can from heavy weapons. I think either way we might be dead but I want to make sure nothing that can help you is getting overlooked)
23:48
(Yeah, page 53, heavy weapons instantly kill, so we're down for good it seems)
The armor system flatlines, and Finius does not awaken. The bodies of himself, and his men remain on Jahnavi, inside the missile base. Eleven more added to the tomb.
